My Fair City

I was downtown Monday afternoon helping impound cars (because that's what we do) and as we came over John Street there was the Space Needle staring me in the face.
There are so many beautiful things here that I tend to take them for granted quite easily. While I don't live in Seattle, I do work there and at times it can be just gorgeous.

We have breath taking views of Mt. Rainier on clear days (yes, we do occasionally have clear days here) and it is a great place to go on a hike or just up for lunch to feed the squirrels...even though it's not really allowed...oops. It's awesome though, they just climb right up in your lap to get some peanuts and are overly adorable.

Just this morning I heard an ad on the radio for the Seattle Aquarium and stood there and thought, wow it's been a long time since I've been there. They offer tons of cool things...otters, tropical fish, sharks all those kinds of things. Although they don't have any large tanks, there is still enough to keep anyone amused for a good part of the day.

I'm quite ashamed to say that I have never been to the Pike Place Market. However, I have seen it on television and driven past it many times. How sad is that? Anyways, it's also a really cool place to visit. Just the fresh fish throwing is pretty amazing...those suckers would fly right past me before I caught one! The fresh flowers are delightful and some of the restraunts down there are delicious.

All in all, I'm heading off to the east coast tomorrow and haven't really even taken the time to scour the largest attractions in the state that are right in my backyard. I'll have to really work on that!

Beautiful

Can I just take a moment to mention how gorgeous it is outside right now? Picture perfect blue sky dimpled with a few perfectly placed clouds, it's beautiful!

Anyways, happy Monday! The weekend, as always, went by quickly and was full of birthdays. Friday marked a good friend's son turing 5 and Leah's sister Courtney's daughter turning 1. Saturday was Koleden's party and Kyla's was on Sunday. Bad friend that I am, I opted out of the bouncy palace party, but Andrew and I went to Kyla's yesterday afternoon.

There were many people there which was expected since her parents have a large group of friends they do things with. I've known most of the group for a long time because Courtney and I grew up next-door from one another. There was always one girl who was just, well, I didn't like her at all. She was always quite rude, errogant and overall not a nice person. I really don't even think everyone in the group liked her, but she's still around and has become a bit more tollerable since those years ago. She was at the party yesterday and I've got to say, it was very rewarding to see her. She found someone and got married and she's having a baby in September. The one who was always condescending if someone wasn't built like a toothpick and who never, ever was going to have children is having one of her own. It was a beautiful sight. She was pleasant and all, but it was nice to see her a little more down-to-earth and in the same place her friends had been in while she judged them.

It must come off as a bit rude on my part, but she has always been this overly spoiled girl, going as far as to demanding to be in the bridal party at one friend's wedding (she was not). I am curious to see what kind of mother she will be and how her daughter will turn out.

Is that wrong of me?

Leaving on a Jet Plane

Andrew and I are going to depart Thursday morning for the east coast. More specifically: New Jersey; Philadelphia; Manhattan and Washington, D.C.

The main reason for this trip (and not going on our romantic weekend on the coast staying in a caboose...how cool is that? But, no I'm over that...) is to see Yankee Stadium before it is torn down after the season ends.

We are going to be staying with some friends of ours who live in New Jersey so our housing is taken care of. What I'd really like to know is what some great things in Philly and WA, DC are. We won't have much time in Manhattan unfortunately, so we have our stops there pretty laid out. I've been there before so I have some of what I thought the best places were in mind.

We'll have an entire day in Philly and have some things picked out, but aren't too sure what is really key to see. Andrew has been to Washington, to he has some places in mind, but again, what's something great? Not necessarily a tourist trap, but something to see when you only have a day to spend.

We're kind of doing the whirl-wind trip, but it works for us until we have more time (and money!) someday. Pretty much, a day in each town. Hopefully we'll have a chance in a few years to go back to NY and Washington and spend some real time. My biggest thing is that I don't want to waste the entire day standing in line.

So, if you have any tips or terrific places that are a must see, let me know!

Happy Friday!

It's finally Friday! Any big plans for the weekend?

So, I've read a few blogs where there is a question or challenge of somesort posted each week and I think I'm going to give it a whirl.

I'm going to start out with a question and we'll see how it goes. Maybe next week we'll work up to a challenge.

So the question is this: What is one possession you own that tells the most about you? What I mean is, if you met a complete stranger and they asked you for one item that would give them the most insight into your life, what would it be?

My answer: I have 2. Hey, I can do it, it's my question! First would be a saddle. I think that it would show the person not only that I have horses and ride, but that I'm an outdoorsey kind of girl who doesn't mind getting dirty.

Second would be a picture in a frame. The frame I'm thinking of is a white one with the black swirly kind of things throughout it. Just the frame itself would show that I'm a bit creative and have kind of a fun personality. I'm not sure what picture I would want in it. Probably one with Andrew. The picture would easily show how much I loce him because I'm always happy and glowing when I'm around him.

So, what would your item(s) be?

One Year of Fabulous

It has come and gone, so quickly it seems. Yesterday was one year of my and Andrew's being together. One year. It may seem like such a small amount of time to those who have been married for a decade or better, but it's a milestone for us.

If I hadn't been incredibly bull-headed in September of 2006, we'd be coming close to two years, but that's alright. I'm so delightfully happy with where we are now that it doesn't matter.

We met over four years ago in the pouring down rain, soaked all the way through. At that time he was with someone else, but they ended things shortly after that. We came to be such good friends after that that we decided to try the dating thing and see if that went anywhere. It did and it was nice, but we unfortunately attend universities about 65 miles apart and could only see each other on the weekends when we weren't studying and it just wasn't fair for either of us.

We still emailed and talked to each other frequently, usually many times throughout the week and I knew I was falling for him. Truth be told, I had already fallen for him. Hard. When school got out last summer we picked things back up and it worked. It worked very well. We made it through the next school year and here we are, a year and a day later.

It's been a long ride, let me tell you. He was in a major snowmobiling accident the end of December and was in the hospital for ten days and two major surgeries. I was with him the whole time and am so glad I was. We learned a lot about each other, we showed our strength and solidarity together and proved we can get through anything. Besides that, school takes a toll on us because we are apart, but a few surprise visits helped out a lot! I know in my heart and soul that I was put here to be with him and he with me. I truly believe that he is the best thing that has come into my life, he makes me be adventerous and really live. We bring out the best in each other and I love him with all my heart.

He is my love, my friend, my everything and always will be.

I love you baby.

Tuesday's Fabulous:

For today, I think I am going to post one of my favorite quotes.
This line was said by a fellow named Ron Dettinger:
"The difference between baseball and politics is that in baseball when you get caught stealing, you're out."
I like it a lot. You? Yes, comments?

The Daily Dose of Fabulous - Thursday July 17, 2008

Photo taken at my sister's wedding last Saturday:

The Daily Dose of Fabulous Intro

Hi!
I am a 20-something girl who lives in a small town outside Seattle. My intent with this blog is to bring a daily dose of fabulous to the people who may find this page. It may not be your idea of fabulous, but it is mine. It will be anything, a photo I've found or taken, a pair of shoes, a song or video clip, you name it it could show up.
There is really no real reason I'm starting this, just as a way to show a bit of my creative side I suppose. Anywho, hopefully someone at sometime will find something I may post enjoyable and just as fabulous as I do!
Ciao,
~d
